To the Point

Our trip to Point Pelee National Park

This started out as a bit of a last minute trip.  About a week before we left we had decided that we hadn't been camping enough that summer and decided to fix it the next weekend.

It started off alright.  We left on time with all the stuff we could need to see the most southern point of Canada.  But when we were almost to Leamington we discovered that road construction would not allow us to use the exit that the directions told us to and we had to go all the way into Windsor before we could get off the highway.  Oh well there went an hour we will never get again.

We find the campsite alright and it looked okay. It was nothing specatular but clean ,well maintained and close to all the attractions we had gone to see.

We spent the first afternoon looking around and went for a visit to the local winery and to book a trip to Pelee Island.  Note to self always book at least a week ahead of time if you want to get to the island.

The next morning we all went to the bird sanctuary and were a little disappointed that the something that is as well known as it is was so small and in such bad repair.  It was alright we went into town and found a small fort which was showcasing all sorts of historic military goodies.  We spent the rest of the day there and had a really good time.

The next morning we got up and Tom and April were not feeling well.  We thought that we might as well try to see the park. What a nice spot. The National Park is one of the smallest in the country but the most unique.  Of course it was fly season.  They bit us the entire time we were there not making it pleasant.  The kids only got sicker so we figured to head for the camper.

On the way back we picked up some fresh fish and chips at a local diner and enjoyed them with a few bottles of the wine from the first night.  ( Remember the winery).

Even with all the problems we still managed to have a great time and are looking forward to returning next year with healthy children and a reservation for the ferry to Pelee Island.
